Evelyn really didn't know what she had meant. Confusion swirled into the catharsis in her head and heart and she simply buried her face in her knees again, fingers loosening their vice-like grip on Jake's hand so as not to cut off his blood circulation.slightly

Jacob felt her fingers loosen up, only a bit, their hands linked together on her shoulder, he lowered himself down to his knees so he was at her level, and he looked at her. Not knowing whether to leave or stay, but he just wanted to wait and see what Evelyn would say or do anything.

Evelyn forced herself to return to that cool emptiness she'd felt all day, and forcibly lifted her head, blinking at Jake through red-rimmed eyes.

He was staring at her like he was waiting. For what? She blinked at him and a few tear drops dripped off her lashes. "What?" she asked dazedly, letting go of his hand to wrap both arms around her knees.

"I don't know, I don't. I'm sorry maybe, no not maybe... I should go. I think I'm bothering you."Jake said stumbling over his own words, he said he should leave but he remained sitting as he saw her tears again, and he couldn't bear to leave Evelyn this way but he felt like they were just going in one big circle.

Evelyn simply stared at him. Nova bounded onto her bed and lay down by her side, snuffling sleepily.

She shook her head slightly to clear it. "You're confusing me, is what you're doing. Why do you keep apologizing? I'm the one who should be sorry for making you feel like this is your fault when it's not." She rubbed at her eyes impatiently. "I shouldn't have said anything - forget it."

Evelyn lifted her head, startled, and reflexively flinched away. "Nothing, okay? Just, forget it," she mumbled. "Forget I said anything." Nova shifted as her arm jostled him.

"Fine... no. I don't know I feel like there is something we need to fix but I don't what but its just there is something we just keep putting off and I just wanna fix it." Jake huffed, he felt like there was something but what it was he had no idea.

Evelyn took a moment to understand him and then licked her lips and straightened. "If I say that I don't want anything to do with you, it'll be like I'm indirectly blaming you. And I don't want to pin the blame on you. I think you do that enough on your own." She looked at him then, eyes level with his. "But I don't know...I don't know when I'll be okay with having you around me."

"I didn't expect everything to be all water under the bridge with us. Thing is, even before this whole mess we knew our relationship was unhealthy. And we just kind of dug at the other and I know we're going in circles again this really sucks." Jake sighed running a hand through his hair, he got up and went to lean against her window. "Things were a lot easier when I was Mufasa a few hours ago."

"If you want an out, you have it," Evelyn said finally, figuring she should give him what he'd come here for. She wiped her eyes; mascara came off on her fingers and she sniffed again, looking around rather dazedly for a tissue box.

"No, Jake," Evelyn said, voice emotionless as she turned away from him and lay down, back to him. She pulled her duvet up to her chin, closing her eyes. "You always want an out."

Evelyn opened her eyes and turned over onto her back so she was looking up at him. His face was completely in shadow, making it hard to see anything and she squinted.

"Want an example? The second you got out of hospital and to Vegas, practically the first thing you did was hit up Nevada Barbie. If I hadn't planned to go to Vegas, we wouldn't be having this conversation, because that's just the kind of guy you are. Do us both a favour and spell it out for me when you want something instead of going about it in circles, wasting my night," she said curtly.

"Oh because me hitting on a girl was so bad? You being so back and forth and ending things between us all the time! What did you expect? I mean I would tell you I'd wait for you but then you get all cold, and close yourself off! All you've done is confuse me!" Jake retorted firmly.

"Actually," Evelyn said, anger kicking into her voice, "this was all before I ended things with you - for the second time, not all the time, and actually right after I'd come to see you in the hospital - turns out you didn't want me there because you and your boys had a nice bachelor's party headed for Sin City's skanks. So before you pin this on me, remember you started it."

Jacob rolled his eyes. "Oh because I'm sure you weren't dancing with some guy before you saw me? I mean face it! You're just as guilty as I am! Because the second we ended things you were off flirting shamelessly or dancing with other guys. Or just making my life hell!"

She sucked in her breath, eyes scrunched shut. Opening them, she saw Nova lying next to her and she forced herself to reply.

"Doesn't change anything. At least I wait till we clearly end things before I go out with anybody else. You don't," she said shortly. "And stop yelling, it's three a.m."

"You never made it clear when things were over! All we ever did was not speak to each other for a month, show up at the same party and get pissed off at the other for being with whores." Jake said, lowering his voice. Not because Evelyn told him to, but because he felt like it.
