The water splashed Evelyn's knees and she jerked them up, scooting further along the pool wall where she was seated. "Hey!" she snapped, breaking out of her musing about bullheaded Spaniards. Since she was already on the topic of Jake, her excuse came ready-made from her recent talk with him. "I'm daydreaming about the next Enrique concert here!"

"Ooh," Carrie exclaimed dreamily, "We gotta get back to New York by August if we wanna go!"

"Pete's sake," Luke muttered, ducking underwater.

"What's so great about Enrique? So what he speaks Spanish." James shrugged, not really liking of thinking about Enrique since it only reminded him of an annoying Spaniard he had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting this year.

"Well the Spanish is a plus point, but I meant his voice," Evelyn remarked. "And it doesn't hurt that he's a looker," she added, winking at Carrie over James' head.

"Why are we talking about Enrique?" Luke demanded, getting out of the pool to drop onto an empty lounger. "Man, I need a drink."

"Why?" Carrie asked, "is he giving you boys an esteem complex?"

"Please I look better than Enrique, plus the dude is almost forty." James added, as he swam to the edge, to pull himself out.

"I'm hungry," Luke remarked, getting up. "I wanna grab something to eat."

Evelyn had to laugh at this as she got up, tossing her hair back over her shoulder as she walked to her bag and pulled out her towel. She picked up her bag just as Carrie surfaced out of the water. "Heading to the showers," Evelyn said to her and Carrie nodded.

"I wanna swim a bit more," she replied, ducking back into the water. Evelyn set off for the4 changing rooms and Luke grabbed his towel, heading for the boys' changing rooms.

James had been kind of hungry since they had been moving all day he hadn't gotten a chance to really eat. "I'm gonna go with Luke, are you sure you wanna stay by yourself?" James asked Carrie as he climbed out of the pool.

Carrie looked over as a few people came into the pool area. A lifeguard was now seated on a higher seat. She grinned. "I'm good. Take Lyn with you. She had a fainting spell earlier." Her smile faded somewhat as she frowned.

James frowned, he had no idea that Evelyn had fainted earlier. He nodded at Carrie waving her off as he grabbed his towel to dry himself off he went to the locker room to change.

After about ten minutes, Luke headed out of the changing rooms as he rubbed at his wet hair with his towel. James was still in and Evelyn was nowhere to be seen. Luke sat down on a lounge chair, spotting Carrie no doubt flirting with the lifeguard, who looked to be a college kid.

James waltzed out of the locker room spotting Luke, he walked over sitting down near him. "Hey, I decided to come with you I've realized I haven't eaten much today."

Evelyn appeared right as Luke was about to exit the pool area, back in shorts and a tank, hair dangling in damp curls down her back. She looked over at Carrie, then at James and finally at Luke, puzzled as to what she wanted to do.

"Coming today, James?" Luke called over to the brunet.

"Yeah wait!" James said following Luke and Evelyn out. As they walked out, James stole a glance at Evelyn. Carrie had said that she had fainted earlier today at school and he was kind of looking to see if maybe she looked ill or something. Ignoring just how pretty she looked.

"Um, where are you guys heading?" Evelyn asked.

They headed out of the pool room and down the hall to the elevator. Luke hit the button and looked down at her. "We were gonna hit the restaurant downstairs. Wanna come?" He glanced at James, who, for some odd reason, was giving Evelyn a studying look.

"Sure," she replied, swinging her bag over her shoulder (and not-so-subtly hitting James with it).

"Ow." James said rubbing his cheek from where Evelyn's bag had made contact. "Calm down its not like I was trying to attack you or something."

Evelyn threw James a confused glance. Say what?

She shook her head, not sure what he was on about, and followed Luke into the elevator.

They headed downstairs to the lobby of the hotel, which led to various eating places. Luke texted Ashlee, asking her what she was up to, to see if she wanted to come over, since she lived nearby.

Evelyn checked her phone. Only an hour and a half had gone by. She figured she'd wait a little more to allow Jake's temper to cool off. She hated talking to him when he was in a bitter/resentful mood.

Ashlee replied to Luke saying she'd meet them wherever they decided to go.

James just shook his head. "Never mind, so Luke where are we going?" James went on to ask him.

"Just down to the dining room," Luke replied, stepping out of hte lift and heading across the hallway. Evelyn trailed after him. "Ashlee is coming over," he added, sending her a text with directions to the hotel's dining room.

Evelyn looked up from her phone and decided not to mention James in this part of the get-together whenever she happened to mention it to Jake. She didn't see the point of incensing him further since he seemed so damn convinced James was into her. Which seemed further from the truth, she reflected, as Luke entered the large dining hall and headed for the host.

"Table for four?" he said.

The host led them to a rectangular table by the window and Evelyn sat down at one of the two seats that were near the window. Luke sat down opposite her.

She debated in her head for a minute before finally sending Jake a text, U home yet?

James sat next to Luke across from Evelyn kind of just tapping his fingers on the table.

Jake had been laying on the couch at his house, he had the TV on to some movie, he hadn't really been paying attention to it he was actually sort of falling asleep after getting home and taking his stuff upstairs and unpacking some if it once getting home. It was his vibrating phone that jarred him awake.

It was a text from Evelyn. He blinked his eyes a couple of times before replying. Yea home, kind of just laying around

"Well, this is sufficiently awkward," Luke muttered, as Evelyn's phone buzzed in her hand. She pulled a face and looked over at James.

"So how's basketball going, James?" she asked conversationally, fingers flying over her phone's keyboard.

R u still mad? she replied to Jake.

James looked at Evelyn, and shrugged. "Um well the season ended awhile ago so its okay, I've been practicing and what not. What have you been up to?" James asked her.

Jake rolled onto his back, yawning. He wasn't exactly sure why he had gotten so mad with her earlier, but he was okay now.

I'm fine now, just relaxin. What r u up to?

Evelyn looked down at her phone as it buzzed, and then up at James and then down at her phone before she looked up at him. "I started working on ballet again, just self-teaching to try and retain what I remember," she replied absently, fingers flicking away. "You remember Lola? I'm gonna see if she can give me pointers since she actually kept at ballet unlike me." She felt her insides squirm. She'd dropped ballet in middle school, around eighth grade voice lessons after her dad's death.

"Oh yeah, she does theater," Luke said, looking up as a waiter approached with menus. He left one with Ashlee's seat and handed the rest over to them, disappearing. Evelyn replied to Jake: Getting lunch while we wait for Ash. Shes prob doing her Seth's-wife mirror routine.

So she skipped the little detail of James being present. So what?

James nodded picking up the menu and looking over it.

Just then Ashlee had arrived walking over to their tables, "Hey guys." She greeted them with a smile, sitting down next to Evelyn. "Sup?" She asked.

Jake cracked a grin at Evelyn's text message and sent back to her. They did get married for a reason

Thought that reason was alcohol, Evelyn replied back, putting her phone down hastily when Ashlee sat. "Hey," she greeted her, picking up her own menu. "How are you and the roomie doing?"

Luke snorted softly as he pored over a list of drinks.
