"Yeah, it was a small cut though. He was trying to prove a point, thankfully, and not murder me with a hundred witnesses," Evelyn said dryly, taking the tissues and sponging at the cut. It seemed to have crusted and clotted over somewhat but still tended to send a couple drops of blood down her arm.

They reached the fifth floor and Evelyn bade the other two goodbye before heading to her suite. Seht glanced curiously at Lola. "Jake was...at the club?" he asked, keeping his hand on the doors to make them stay open. "When - how?"

Lola shrugged, running a hand through her hair. "I dunno Seth, he was just there. I mean I saw him on the dance floor with Evelyn and then he took off or something. And I guess he had nicked her with the knife and just... keep an eye on her. Some weird stuff happened before you showed up." Lola informed Seth, keeping her voice low.

[Tiger-Lily]

"Weird being the keyword lately," Seth muttered, heading ot his suite. He pressed an ear against Jake's door before he went to bed but could hear nothing to tell him if Jake was home yet.

Seth sighed, wondering what the hell was going on with the guy, and his arm throbbed again. He returned to his room.

Evelyn had burst into her suite, locked that door, headed for her dorm room, and thrown her bag and shoes away as she tore off her jacket and went to bandage her arm. She hadn't realized Jake had actually cut it deeper than a nick. He'd definitely been serious, but she knew that, knew better now.

She didn't bother to change out of her dress, flipping up her laptop lid and typing furiously.

Okay, the cross thing...this was not natural! She couldn't dismiss it any longer...

Signs of possession...She should have tried some more of these on Jake. Maybe reading a few Bible, Torah, whatever verses out would show her some clue...but she wasn't going to get away unscathed with more evidence.

Hell, who knew where Jake was right now, maybe even planning her demise?

Her window was locked, Nova asleep under it. So she was temporarily okay.

So if someone was possessed...the process of saving them wasn't something she could handle, she read that much. SHe'd need outside help.

Evleyn's arm began hurting from being lifted as she typed. She felt her eyes flutter and decided first thing tomorrow to head out to some of the addresses to possible exorcists...

She sounded and felt like a lunatic. She closed her laptop monitor down and walked to her closet to find PJs.

Jacob had reached his room before Seth had returned from being downstairs, he could hear him as he entered. He sat quietly in the dark of his room. He turned on the lamp by his desk once he was sure Seth had gone to his room checking the burns on his chest, neck, and head.

He wasn't too concerned about concealing the one on his chest, most of shirts he wore covered it up. His hair and throat though however. Jacob took a comb off the desk, combing his hair down and it had done the trick of hiding that.

The one on his neck he'd figure out what to do with later. Just wear hoodies or jackets he supposed? It was still pretty cold out.

They're catching on, you're showing too much of yourself and they're gonna get rid of you. Jacob argued with the demon, he had felt his own flesh burning when the cross made contact with his skin and it had hurt him, he knew it repelled the demon and that meant that Evelyn and now Lola knew this.

The demon knew that he would have to get rid of Evelyn, he knew that this would trigger her suspicion to get rid of him, and now that Lola had witnessed this it meant he would have to get rid of her too. Although its not like they could get rid of a demon that easily, there was only one sure fire way to get rid of a demon.

And most people would call them crazy and lock both those girls up in a loony bin before ever thinking there was anything "supernatural." wrong with Jacob.

Still, he had to be cautious, and plan his attacks wisely because he would completely dismiss the idea of the girls finding someone or luring him to a trap.

Evelyn hadn't been able to find a pastor who didn't look at her weird the moment she asked a simple question about demonic influences. She didn't want ot be escorted out of church, so she quit asking them and returned home downcast.

This was not going to be easy. Those exorcist addresses were outdated.

So she'd tried to enlist Seth and Lola's help. Unfortunately, Lola was working and Seth had decided he needed to stay out of the house and had started hitting up his old home more often.

But they had agreed to meet her on Friday, around three PM at her suite. She'd walked Nova and was now getting together her printed information on demons, odd as it sounded when said aloud.

She had only seen Jake from afar. She wondered if he was even attending any exams. She doubted the demon cared - but Jake had already been on probation once.

It was weird that she was now used to the idea of a demon in Jake. But it was definitely better than Jake himself having done any of those nasty things.

So far, though, the demon had left her alone. So she was grateful for each sunrise.

A knock on the door alerted her to Seth and Lola's arrival. She could hear them bickering through the door, something about whose fault something was. She rolled her eyes and went to let them in.

Nova was out with Luke now, so the suite was empty. Evelyn pulled open the door and interrupted the debate.

"Hey, guys," she said cheerfully, one hand rising to her bandaged arm, the gauze just visible under the short sleeves of her [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

Seth closed his mouth and then nodded at her. "'Sup, Red?"

He barged inside impatiently. "Okay, so hurry up 'cause I have a hot date with a pair of hot twins." He winked and she pulled a face.

"Um, look. this is about something that might be causing Jake to be this way," she began swiftly, shutting the door behind them as they entered. She glanced at her bedroom. Her anti-Jake protections were up. A couple of Biblical, Torah and even Quranic verses were scribbled under her window sill, on the wall in pencil. She had gotten a few more ornaments, a demon seal at a weird store, that now hung over the window too, mostly claiming to trap a demon who accidentally touched it. She doubted it worked, but whatever.

"But we need to deal with this quickly..."

She walked over to the pages she had on the table. "Um...Lola, that thing you saw, when I burned his forehead last weekend in the lobby," she began and Seth interrupted.

"That's why he has a burn on the throat, huh?"

She nodded. And then swallowed and said, "Jake couldn't get in contact with a cross. He....he's not himself. He's...okay, you're going to laugh. Jake's possessed." She looked down at her hands, feeling her face heat.

Lola had been twirling her [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] on her necklace, when she had walked in and stopped looking up at Evelyn. "Wait... what?"

Lola let that thought sink into her, Jacob being possessed by a demon? Like in all of those movies where the girl walks down the stairs on her fingers, and throws up smashed green beans? That was Jacob?

No it couldn't be that wasn't real. But she remembered what she had seen, Jake's eyes had gone black. The way the cross had burned his skin. "No, no it can't... there's no way." Lola said in disbelief.

Seth was snickering. "Red, you've been doing the X drug."

Evelyn sighed. "Look, read these symptoms. I have to go grab my laptop. I'll be right back."

She turned and walked to her room, pushing open the door and heading ot her laptop to pull up a list of pastors who supposedly worked in demon exorcisms. She hit print and her printer whirred to life.

"Eye dysfunction," Seth read aloud after she had gone and left him and Lola in the living room. He frowned. "I didn't see that. Um....unusual behaviour, aggression, insomnia...yeah, this was definitely Jake. But this does not prove shit like demons. Come on, it's crazy." He laughed. "I think Red's goin' round the bend."

Jacob had been in his room and decided to go spy on Evelyn, he had been for the last couple of days. He had noticed her putting things up in her suite, and researching things on her computer and it made him wonder just what she was reading.

Although he had a very good feeling about what it could be.

Jacob had climbed out the window and snuck along the ledge, he had stopped in front of the living room window and saw two heads bent over reading. Seth and Lola. Jake felt his jaw clench, but he stayed silent hoping to hear them talk about anything that might pertain to the demon.

Lola bit her lip reading the list, "Seth, last weekend when we were attacking Jacob, Evelyn put a cross ring to his head and it burned him. Like the one on his throat and his eyes... they went black... like full on black." Lola muttered to him sounding almost half crazy herself but she couldn't deny what she had seen.

[Tiger-Lily]

Seth stared at Lola. "That...it's just...c'mon. This is just crazy."

He shook his head and turned away, running a hand through his hair. "Jake...but...demons don't exist." His voice came out in a whisper though, because he didn't want the neighbours wondering if he was nuts.

The demon seal pendant over her window had begun to stir as if in a slight wind - except Evelyn's window was closed and latched. She stared up at it, confused, and prayed this wasn't some creepy sign a demon was in her room.

Unless Jake was outside her window...

Evelyn put down the sheets she was carrying, felt the cross reassuringly against her chest and pulled aside the blinds. Peering through the glass, she couldn't see anything.

She leaned sideways, frowning. Why was that stupid thing still spinning then? And swaying back and forth so damn creepily. She looked away from it and turned back to the pages, picking them up.

Lola knew it sounded crazy but so many of the things sounded like him. "I don't know Seth, I mean... what if its real. What if he really does have a demon inside of him? It might try to kill us, I mean Jake no matter how mad he has ever gotten, has never once hit me or you. Him cutting Evelyn with a knife, he loves her. He would never do this."

[Tiger-Lily]

Seth opened his mouth and then argued some more. "He's also bipolar. And in a bipolar rage, he has almost hit her before, if you must know. It's possible he might have gone into a weird passive-aggressive period again..."

Evelyn walked out of her room, catching the end of Lola's words, and her heart began aching all over again. The worst thing about doing anything to the demon, she knew, was that she was doing it to Jake too.

She walked down the hall and turned to the living room, deciding to ensure the windows were okay. So she was being paranoid but after that death threat, she wasn't an idiot.

She stepped past Lola and Seth and walked to the window silently, yanking up the blinds and peering through the glass, sideways at the space between the windows.

Her heart stopped in fear.

"I know it sounds weird Seth but--" Lola stopped when she looked up at Evelyn. She seemed frozen near the window. "Hey what's up?" She asked her.



Jacob could feel that his presence had been detected by Evelyn. Now he knew he could break in but it would be hard to take on all three of them. So he just turned himself around and went back to his room. He needed to either have Evelyn alone, or just her and Lola.

But then he realized there had to be a way to draw them to the window. And that's when a thought dawned into his head. He stood up slowly since he knew Evelyn could see him, and counted mentally to three. and with that he outstretched his arms and stepped off the ledge.

[Tiger-Lily]

Evelyn had looked away from the window when Jake headed back to his. "He was listening," she said flatly. "Thank God we didn't..."

She looked back out the window and could have sworn...She shook her head and turned back to Lola. "He's gone. I have some, um, demon repellent things up." She pointed at the verses under the window sill.

Seth pursed his lips. "You...really think it's a..."

Evelyn pulled two cheap metal cross necklaces out of her pocket and tossed them to Seth and Lola. "Put these on, tuck them under your clothes, hopefully he won't touch you."

"I don't wear this shit," Seth muttered, but sighed and threw it on anyways. "This is so gay!"

[Guest]

Lola grabbed the necklace putting it on over her neck and tucking it into her shirt. "Seth I mean, you never know. Just because we've never encountered a demon doesn't mean they're not real... right?" She asked, wondering if she sounded just as crazy as she thought she did.

Jacob had climbed down to a ledge just below Evelyn's window, and wondered why she hadn't come out? Did she not see him jump off the ledge? That should have triggered something. He cursed under his breath knowing his plan had failed he climbed back up to the ledge, staying clear out of her window to keep away from her line of vision.

[Tiger-Lily]

Evelyn shook her head. "Okay, here's what we need either a pastor or someone who is....religiously pure."

There was a pause before Seth blurted out, "You don't really fit anymore, huh?" He grinned at her to show he was kidding. "You're kind of..."

Evelyn stopped thinking about demons completely as her mind flew to Vegas. Her cheeks bloomed bright red. She glared at Seth across the room.

Lola stifled a few giggles at that comment and looked up at Evelyn. "Hey um... no offense but I heard you're still kind of a prude are you sure you still can't perform an exorcism?" Lola couldn't help herself, it was the first time she had really laughed in a few days since this whole thing happened.

[Tiger-Lily]

"I..." Evelyn's cheeks reddened painfully like apples. She glowered. "I can't do it."

"She's not a virgin," Seth said bluntly. "Sex is like, in no way pure."

Evelyn blushed again. "Um..."

"So I guess ironically, Jake just deflowered the last virgin in all of Manhattan before he could be exorcised," Seth said to Lola like Evelyn wasn't standing right there.

[Guest]

Lola nudged Seth, trying to contain another fit of laughter. "Stop! This is serious shit Seth."


Jacob could hear them laughing, something about Evelyn no longer being a virgin. Which he was well aware of when the demon had went through his thoughts. It was something that he often felt guilty about doing to her. So it knocked the chances of Evelyn being able to get the demon out of him. Which was good because last he checked not many pastors did exorcisms anymore.

At least not stateside.

[Tiger-Lily]

Evelyn glared at them both, flushing from head to feet. "Guys, can we move past my nonexistent virginity already?"

Seth snickered again, nudging Lola. "So we can't have the prude in the red dress swapping spit with Demon Boy last night then?" Evelyn blinked and then glared, realizing Seht must have asked someone about Jake at Downtime.

"We need a pastor!" she said irritably. "But I can't find one."

"Maybe you can be born again?" Seth suggested, grinning wide. "You know, revirginized."

Evelyn resisted an urge to slap him.

Lola nearly burst out laughing but saw Evelyn's sour expression and coughed.. She turned to Seth smacking him. "But where are we gonna find a pastor to do this? I mean, a lot of churches have banned exorcisms and don't allow priests and stuff to do them from what I've heard."

[Tiger-Lily]

"We can do it ourselves if we have to," Evelyn said doubtfully. "I don't think we're going to find a pastor..." She hesitated. Honestly, she didn't go to church regularly, but se was a firm believer in religious boundaries in most things she did. But was it enough? Demon dealing was deadly business. She swallowed. "We should try to find one. This is a huge city. We can find one who does it discreetly, you know?"

"You know," Seth said to Lola, ignoring this discussion. "She's too prudish, she can't even talk about sex. I told Jake he should've fucked her again to get her to let go of the snobby French mentality. f Jake's still out there, he's probably gonna take this as an invitation to bang her again."

Evelyn stopped talking instantly, jaw dropping.

"How many times do I have to hit you!?" Lola said punching Seth a few times in his right arm since his left was still crippled.

Jacob heard this remark from outside the window and smirked. Sure he'd love to screw Evelyn, then kill her. It would be an ultimate high in his demon career.

Like hell you'll touch her. She'll get rid of you before that even happens

Evelyn was looking down at her feet, but she wasn't hearing Seth and Lola.

Jake's whispered threat echoed in her ears, along with the feel of his knife digging into her arm last weekend: "I'll skin that little dog of yours and slit your pretty little neck while I fuck you..."

She blinked hard, mouth going dry. She didn't think she'd ever be able to look at Jake without remembering those words. A shudder pulsed through her and she inhaled sharply. "Guys, can w-we j-just get back to focusing on this, please?" Her voice wobbled, threatening to crack.

"Just sayin'," Seth said, "You gotta loosen up, Red."

"You can go find one," she snapped harsher than intended. "Here, here's a sheet of the addresses of known exorcists. Go track them."

Seth looked them over. "They're um...church pastors! I can't, um, I don't go to church often."

Evelyn sighed. "You want to go with him, Lola?" She was kind of tired of running around Manhattan, a city she barely knew, on a goose chase.

"On account that you'll burst into flames the second you step into a church." Lola snorted, flicking Seth's head. But she remembered she wasn't really any better. The only times she went to church were for Easter and Christmas.

That hardly made her a devout Catholic either.

"You sure you don't wanna come, I mean... you'll be fine alone right?" Lola asked her.

Evelyn snorted. "I think I'm safer surrounded by three holy scriptures," she said, pointing to the windowsill again. "And I have to stay here for when Luke brings Nova back."
