Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
"Just your standard stuff, nothing fancy. A couple of flips here and there. Even backwards a few times." Jake informed Seth on his diving adventures although it was mt like he hadn't seen Jake do this stuff before.

Seth stared at him a moment and then reached over and smacked Jake's head. "I wasn't talking about that," he hissed, voice low. He wiggled his eyebrows. "I was talking about the very obvious you-know-what you and Red are carrying around."
Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
Jacob raised an eyebrow at Seth, glancing at Evelyn and looking back at Seth. "I'm not carrying anything."

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
Seth quirked an eyebrow and smirked. Okay, if Jake was going to play dumb, so would he.
He raised his voice enough for the girls to hear. "MY, WHAT A SEXUALLY TENSE DAY THIS IS!"
Carrie burst into silent giggles and Evelyn's head shot up from her book, eyes widening. Seth nudged Jake again and shot Lola a meaningful glance, tilting his head toward Evelyn.

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
Jake gaped wordlessly at Seth, what was wrong with him?! As if things between him and Evelyn weren't bad enough. Jacob tried to say something but there were no words to say.
So instead he just got up and decided to go for a walk or something.

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
Seth snickered and got up, deciding to go tackle the twins in the water.
The moment both boys left, Evelyn couldn't resist the groan that escaped her. She flattened her face in her book and Carrie shot her a sympathetic glance.
"Coming here was a terrible, terrible idea," Evelyn moaned.

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
"It was only a matter of time, although to be honest the air around the both of you is always sexually charged." Lola chuckled as she took out her phone to respond to a message.

"WHat?" Evelyn felt her stomach drop in horror. Was it really all that obvious? "No! It - it's nto like that. Seht was making shit up."
"I thought I saw something," Carrie commented lightly, sifting sand between her fingers.
Evelyn felt her cheeks warm and swallowed. "No, honestly, it wasn't what it looked like." She shifted uncomfortably. "We're starting over, as you know, potential friends."

"If I had a dime for every time I heard you or Jake say that..." Lola snorted.

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
Evelyn didn't really know what to say to that, because honestly, Lola was right. She just wished that for once, things would stay one way and not go back to...what? Whatever it was she and Jake usually ended up being. Friends with Benefits? Maybe? She didn't really like that idea.
She swallowed and stood up, shivering as she hugged her cardigan to herself. She let her hair out of her ponytail to dry and paced a little to warm herself up. "It's getting cold."
"Jake's gonna freeze," Carrie pointed out logically, looking at the boys in the water nearby. "At least they have the warm water."
Evelyn nodded, frowning. It was getting chilly now as it went to dusk. She walked over to Jake's towel and reached down, snagging his hoodie. "Where'd the idiot go?"
Carrie vaguely pointed down the boardwalk and Evelyn cast a last look back at the boys in the water as she headed after him.
"My God," Carrie muttered so only Lola heard, "They're so amazingly stupid. I don't get it. What is the exact problem here?"

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
Lola shrugged looking over at Carrie. "I don't know but when you figure it out could you tell me?"

Jake had walked back over to the pier and had leaned along the wooden railing looking down at the water, the cold air blew past him and he shivered a little. It was starting to get cold since the sun was going down but he'd leave in a second to go back and get his hoodie.
He just kind of wanted to chill and not think about things being awkward between him and Evelyn. Since they always were. Jake always wondered just how long that was going to last exactly.

Carrie rolled her eyes. "They're such drama queens." Carrie huffed. "It's not like either of them is seeing other people - well, i know Ev isn't. Not for my lack of trying though," she added gloomily.
She turned to Lola. "You're a friend of his, right? So tell me like it is, is he playing the field or something?"
***
Evelyn had half a mind to pull Jake's sweater on over her cardigan. Her wet swimsuit was sticking ot her uncomfortably and her shorts and cardi didn't do much to help.
She took a while before she spotted him though. The beach was getting crowded as people came out to watch the sun set. Evelyn walked along the boardwalk and over to the ostentatiously tall figure. "Um, hey, thought you might need this," she said hesitantly, holding out the hoodie.

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
Lola sighed turning to face Carrie. "Honestly usually he would be if a girl doesn't like him, or if things end for him and someone. But he's really into Evelyn and I haven't heard him or seen him with any other girl since they have met. He really does like her a lot, he's just had an odd way of showing it with her because well ... I don't know you're Evelyn's friend so you'd know her a lot better than I would."
***
Jacob turned his head when he heard Evelyn's voice and grabbed his hoodie from her. "Thanks I was actually about to come back and get it." He pulled it on and zipped it up a little feeling warmer. He looked down at Evelyn and sighed. "I'm um, sorry about Seth back there I had no idea he'd say something like that."

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
Carrie shrugged. "I've never really been around Lyn when she's been romantically interested in someone before." She coughed, figuring bringing up the James situation wouldn't help. "But I mean...usually when she likes a guy, I don't think she'd tell them. It's honestly hard to tell with her, but I can assure you she usually isn't as violent as she is with Jake."
***
Evelyn shrugged, running a hand through her drying hair and half-wondering if she should leave. "It's Seth, you kind of learn to expect crazy shit to come out of his mouth." She shifted on her feet. "But it was my fault. I was teasing you earlier and - and they took it the wrong way. I didn't mean it as..." Evelyn's cheeks suddenly felt warm and she stopped talking.

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
"Uh yeah I'll say the same thing about that too. I mean usually Jake is a lot nicer but I guess him and Evelyn just know how to get underneath each others skin." Lola seemed to notice that they did bicker a lot but it did prove to be entertaining.
***
"No, its not your fault I guess its both of ours I don't know. I mean I was like harassing you all day and I did hit on you so really don't blame yourself for all of it." Jake said gnawing on his lip, averting his eyes back to the water that seemed to get darker as the sky did.

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
"Like that whole week when she trashed his car and he ruined her room," Carrie recalled, amused. "I hate to say it was kind of amusing from a third party view. I mean, one second she's raging at me about how she's gonna peel his skin off with a potato peeler while we clean up her room and next thing you know, they're making out in the middle of Seth's yacht like it's the last hour before Judgment Day."
***
Evelyn narrowed her eyes, frowning. "Oh, I wasn't blaming myself completely. You're a terrible flirt, did you know that??" she asked smugly.

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
Lola choked on her laughter and nodded. "Seriously Jake was so pissed about his car too! I think that's what's so amusing about them too, I swear."
***
"Hey I used to be a lot better, you've ruined me." Jake said grinning at Evelyn.

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
"I hope they seriously work it out though, and don't ignore each other next year," Carrie muttered. "Evelyn told me since they won't be living next door anymore, there's more of a chance for her and Jake to, ahem, take a break from each other, but it just seems like a bad idea to me."
***
"Oh?" Evelyn scoffed. She leaned against the railing beside Jake and turned to look up at him, mimicking his accent. "Muy caliente, chicka, and that's about the extent of your flirting abilities," she said mockingly, smirking.

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
Jake raised an eyebrow and scoffed at Evelyn. "Oh yeah miss..."oooh la la merci sausage!" Jake imitated Evelyn batting his eyelashes at her.
***
"The only way they could get over each other that is if it happens. Is for them to spend time with each other so things aren't so awkward between them." Lola said plainly.

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
"From what I'm seeing, it's having the opposite effect," Carrie said honestly. She glanced at the water, frowning. "I mean, I could've sworn I saw them almost kissing down the boardwalk by the dock just now while you and Seth hashed it out."
***
Evelyn glared and punched Jake's shoulder. "I do not act like that! If anything, i have a higher success rate than you do of seducing anyone! You couldn't seduce a desperately gay guy if you tried!"

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
Lola shrugged. "I don't know they're weird and I've given up trying to figure out their weird relationship."
***
"Why you gotta offend the gays for?" Jake said offended as if he was gay himself.

"I did no such thing!" Evelyn said shortly. "And you knwo perfectly well what i mean. Stop avoiding your inability to flirt."
***
"Someone needs to lock them in a closet someday till they work out their issues," Carrie said, picking up Evelyn's book.

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
"Oh you didn't know? How Ashlee and Seth locked them in a bathroom together for six hours back in the dorms?" Lola asked Carrie, she was sure everyone knew about this.
***
"What can I say. I'm hopeless, awkward and desperate for love, I've accepted my fate. Actually scratch out the last part I'm not desperate for love." Jake said grinning down at Evelyn.

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
Evelyn paused, thrown by this, and couldn't find anything to say so she rolled her eyes, shaking her head. "You forgot awkward, socially retarded, awkward, clumsy, oh - and moronic," she finished for him, counting on her fingers.
***
Carrie grimaced. "she mentioned that - but I mean, clearly it didn't work. Second time lucky maybe?

Re: Lower Manhattan - Beach
"You said awkward like fourteen times, princess." Jake rolled his eyes at Evelyn and then ruffled her hair.
***
"No matter what you do they're still gonna bicker, then make out, then fight again." Lola was beginning to wonder why she was friend with Jake at this point.
